Data, method and attribution
About this site
An independent, read-only index of YouTube videos recommended in Hacker News comments.
Data sources and method
The source material is associated with HackerTube, Andrej Karpathy’s weekend project from November 2026. The archive spans 2007–2026 and was assembled from roughly 43,000,000 Hacker News comments.
Local data files supply this site. During a build, records are validated, duplicates are rejected, and videos without usable recommendation excerpts are excluded. No Hacker News or YouTube requests are made during the build.
A recommendation count represents distinct recommending commenters in the imported data. It is separate from the source project’s ranking score. Each displayed excerpt links to its original comment; points are shown only when supplied by the source.
Sample excerpts, authors and timestamps were checked against the original Hacker News records during preparation. Video publication dates and durations came from the source project’s public metadata at that time.
